Scrap Booking Supplies: Ink

Choosing from among all the inking scrap booking supplies can be daunting. How do you know which ink to buy? Do you need different kinds of ink for scrapbooking and stamping?

Here you will find our basic ink primer to get you familiar with what's available as well as our recommendations for our favorite brands and styles of scrapbooking ink. Using ink is a fun and inexpensive way to add creativity to your scrapbooking layouts and cards.

Chalk Inks

Chalk inks are archival, acid-free, and fast-drying, and they give a soft look. You can use them on wood, leather, paper, and more! These are great for distressing your papers.

ColorBox Fluid Chalk Ink is a great option

They include a stylus that holds the ink pad for more precise inking.

The VersaMagic Chalk Ink is my favorite.

It goes on so smooth, and the ink pad shape is good for wide or narrow inking.

Dye Inks

Dye inks are water-based and are permanent. This is a great general-purpose ink that can be used on all types of papers and is one of those great everyday stamping and scrap booking supplies. Dye-base inks will fade over time. These are great for distressing your papers.

Inkadinkado Stackables are great for easy storage.

I use these earthtone colors all the time - they are so versatile and match almost any color scheme.

Tim Holtz's Distress Ink Pads are some of the most popular on the market

They are water-based for easy cleanup and come in a huge variety of colors.

Pigment Inks

Pigment inks are wonderful to use on clay, mica, wood, paper, shrink plastic, and more. Pigment inks are thick and fade-resistant. They are also archival and acid-free, and are perfect for embossing! Pigment ink will not dry on coated papers unless you emboss the image.

ColorBox Espresso Pigment Ink is a must have if you use stamps.

The thickness of this ink is perfect for stamping words or phrases - especially on cards.

Pigment Inkpad Color Carrier by ColorBox

Don't forget about the carrier for easy storage!

StazOn inks are acid-free, archival, and dry within three to five minutes. StazOn is perfect for surfaces such as transparencies, vellum, glass, tile, metal, plastic, and more! StazOn will stain your stamps so you will need to get a StazOn specific cleaner.

Staz On Ink Pads truly work on any surface

I have Staz On ink pads in black, brown, and opaque white. They're great for stamping or inking on photos.

All Purpose Stamp Cleaner with Dauber Top

Make sure to get the cleaner if you're using Staz On ink. Just run the dauber over your stamp and wipe with a baby wipe or wet paper towel.
